About Me

My name is Stacey Budge-Kamison, the fiberista behind UrbanGypZ Artisan Yarn in Asheville, NC. I am an old school print media art directer turned full time indie crafter fiber artist. I create hand spun art yarn, dye über-soft fibers for spinners and hand paint super-luxe yarns for knitters. I love breaking the rules for the sake of yarn with good textures and edge colorways.

I started this blog right after moving to Asheville from Birmingham, Alabama. It was December, colder than I was used to and I needed warmer clothes. New job, new town, I did not have cable. So, I knit and surfed the internet. I found an awesome community of knitters who shared their projects and experiences through blogging (blog rings– when Ravelry was but a twinkle in Casey and Jess’ eye). Knitting became a way to decompress after a creativity crusher of a day as an art director. The crazier my job (ie the corprate takeover), the more I knit, and the more involved in the knitting community I became. My world had just opened up to a whole subculture of people who challenged me to grown my hobby into an art.

When you find a community who shares your passion, your passion grows in ways you never imagined possible. So, at the risk of sounding all hippie, one love and kumbaya, I offer you community. I want you to love what you are knitting. I want you to share that with me and other knitters here, on my Facebook page, in the UrbanGypZ Flickr group and in the UrbanGypZ Ravelry Group. Because you know your non knitting friends can only handle so much of the knitting talk. Those of us in the community that have found this knitting-is-the-new-yoga thing, get it.

Get your knitting geek on.

Love what you make and share the love.

Dare to knit with edgy yarn.
